CKS SWIFTS FNC
CELEBRATING 100yrs OF PREMIERSHIPS
1914 TO 2014
HDFNL SENIOR AND U/14's PREMIERS 2014
IN THEIR CENTENARY YEAR
The club was formed in 1914 by
Major Whitehead, a former proprietor of The Stawell Times.
It has been advised by former player Alf Hunt that the club had apparently found its name by a group of men meeting on the top of "Big Hill" a town look out. From that meeting the men were trying to think of a team name but nothing was obvious until several swallows flew around them, one member took note and said lets call ourselves the "SWIFTS".
The first recorded document with the “SWIFTS” being mentioned as a football club was in 1914, this information was provided by the Stawell Historic Society.
The "SWIFTS" have also been known as the "BAGGIES" a nickname given after they ran out for a game at Marnoo and comments were made stating how much of a rough looking team they were. What was obvious were the baggy shorts particularly those worn by player Fred Conboy.
In 1962 a foundation member of the club Mr H. Guy informed the club that its 50th birthday was in 1964.
Their home ground is now North Park Recreation Reserve, Lamont st Stawell Vic, originally it was at Central Park the home of the Stawell Easter Gift.
The Swifts celerbrated their 100th year in 2014 by finishing third at seasons end and prepared for a finals campaign. They went on to secure the second chance but were defeated by Kalkee at Balmoral in the first qualifing final. Their final chance was against Edenhope Apsley at Laharum, this narrow victory of 6 points was the beginning of something special. The preliminary final was played at Rupanyup again against Kalkee however the result was to be greatly different. The Swifts came to play, out classing Kalkee by 54 points. Could there be a fairy tale ending to their 100th year celebrations, the players believed so. They went on to face a red hot and undefeated Laharum for the premiership cup. The match was tough and hard from the beginning and on a warm spring day the Swifts players finished the grand final full of run totally out playing their opposition. The Swifts had achieved premiership glory in their centenary year by defeating Laharum by 29 points, "fairy tales do come true"!
The Swifts also won their first HDFNL U/14 premiership.
They have been associated in four leagues;
1. Stawell & District Football Association 1914 - 1929,
2. South Wimmera Football League 1930 - 1969,
