Wellsy was the second of three Wells brothers to join the Dingos, and has become one of the club's longest-tenured and most important players.
Wellsy enjoyed great success on the field in his first two seasons, playing in the 2004 and 2005 premierships. He has finished 3rd in voting for the Steward Award on three separate occasions, and was named to the 2012 and 2014 OAFL All-Star team. He hit the 100-game mark for the Dingos in 2012 and has slowly climbed the all-time ranks of games played, now sitting in the top 5 for Canadians, trailing only such Dingo legends as Craig Stewart, Paul Tinkler, Chris Buczkowski, Stuart Wallis, Jacob Steinberg, and Bob Clarke. Playing most of his career in the backline, Wellsy has chipped in with 30 goals and has become a teacher and club leader for the up-and-coming Canadian Dingos.
Off the field, Wellsy is a staple of the club's Executive and works extensively behind the scenes to help organize events and assure the success of the club. He won the Steinberg (Clubman) Award in 2006 and has served as Vice-President of the club for over 5 years. In honour of his contributions to the Dingos, Wellsy was awarded Life Membership in 2014, only the 11th Dingos to achieve such a distinction.
At the 20th Anniversary Gala in 2015, Wellsy was named to the 20-Year All-Star team.
