The local AFL Competition begins on early April 2022, with the Grand Final held in September/October.
Pre-Season training for the (Senior) Men and Womens Teams for the 2020 will start on Tuesday 25th January 2022 at Bill Elliott Oval - Maryland (Tuesday & Thursdays Til end of March; times 6.00 to 7.30 pm), and Junior Pre-Season begins 11th February 2022 at Bill Elliot Oval (Friday from 5.00 to 6.00 pm). All pre-season training sessions will be 'Come & Try' / 'Bring A Friend Days'; and in mid-late February we will host a special fun day at the beach (likely Dixon Park) - BBQ and drinks included.

For 2022 Season players will be required
- Senior Men need home (red) and away (white) playing shorts, and socks.
- Women need home playing shorts (red) and socks.
- Juniors need playing shorts (black) and socks
The Club will be pre-purchasing shorts and socks (in a range of sizes) so that players can buy at the start of season.
Details on polos, training gear and other off field apparel will be available shortly.
VISION STATEMENT
To be recognised as the most community orientated and family friendly club within the Hunter Junior and Senior AFL Competitions, supporting and teaching the game of the Australian Rules Football to the children and families of the Western Newcastle and Wallsend Areas.
While the name; Wallsend-West Newcastle ARFC is one of the newest in the AFL Hunter Central Coast Competition. We are steeped in History dating back over 100 years. With our long History and new name we are fast becoming one of the most progressive clubs in the Hunter Region. We have been fortunate enough to secure a number of Government/Community Partnership grants over the last few years to upgrade our club facilities to be about to better serve the community and our players for many years to come.
In 2022 the Wallsend Swans Juniors will be represented at all levels from Auskick, Under 9's, Under 11's, Under 13's, Under 15's, Under 17's and on the Youth Girls front we wish to nominate teams in the Under 11's, Under 13', Under 15's and Under 17's divisions.
We are also excited with the return of our recent final’s contenders, the Senior Men and Womens Teams to continue to playing AFL in our club colours with representation at the Senior level for Women and Men in the AFL Hunter Central Coast Plate competitions. This now provides players with the opportunity to develop their skills and continue to play from Juniors through to the Senior Level.
If you're male or female and you're interested in joining, you don’t have to know anything about AFL. The Wallsend Swans have fully accredited AFL Coaches to help teach you the skills so you can safely learn to play the game we love.
JUNIORS
Pre-season training starts Friday - 11 February (2022) from 5.00 to 6.00 pm; and normal training starts at beginning of season. Training is at Bill Elliot Oval, Maryland (opp. Maryland Tavern). Normal training is Wednesday and Fridays from 5.00 to 6.00 pm.
2022 season will start on early April for Auskick and Juniors / Youth (Girls and Boys) - will update shortly once 2022 draw is released.
Grades and Registration Costs
NAB Auskick: 5 to 8 Years (Friday Evenings - 5.00 to 6.00 pm) - $100
(Includes an Auskick Pack (with a footy), Half-time match in front of the Sydney Swans home crowd and training with an accredited Auskick coach)
Junior - 8 to 17 Years (Play on Sundays); 2022 Grades: U9, U11, U13, U15 & U17 - $130
Youth Girls - 8 to 17 Years (Play on Sundays); 2022 Grades: U11, U13, U15 & U17 - $130

You don’t have to know much about AFL & no prior knowledge/training of the game is required. The Wallsend West Newcastle Swans have fully accredited Level 1 and 2 AFL Coaches to help teach you the skills so you can safely learn to play the game we love. We also have fully qualified Football Operations Managers and and a Manager of Female Footy.
The Club is a Level 3 Good Sports Club; and we have a Club Integrity Officer to maintain our Child Protection Register.

SENIORS
Training times - Monday & Wednesdays and (6.00-7.30pm) - Pre-season from Tuesday 25 January to 31 March 2022 at Bill Elliott Oval, Maryland Drive, Maryland (Note: both Tuesdays and Thursday will be training nights for both pre-season training) ; then normal training at Bill Elliot (Maryland) also on Tuesdays and Thursdays; Play on Saturdays in the in the AFL Hunter Coast League. Season Start: Saturday early April 2022 (with Women's Local Representative Carnival) in early March 2022 at Central Coast Regional Sporting & Rec Complex Tuggerah).
Registration Cost will be:
Womens: - $250 and Mens: $300 - which covers affiliation and insurance. Discounts ($50.00) for students and apprentices - Woman's $200 and Men's $250.
*PLEASE NOTE: Insurance is essentially gap civer for out of poket costs. IT is highly recommended for complete insurance cover you have the appropriate level of Private Health Insurance.
Club Apparel Will be via ISC on-line store OR via CLUB: TBA shortly *Players to cover shorts and socks, plus any training or supporters gear. Jersey supplied for season, but returned at the end.

Wallsend-West Newcastle ARFC is a family orientated social club keen promoting diversity and inclusiveness, and are keen to keep growing in the senior divisions – so if you are keen to play or just give it a go - come and join the Swans. We celebrate the Hunter Pride Cup in mid-August in conjunction with the Newcastle Pride Festival - this recognises diversity and inclusiveness in the community. We are the first NSW Regional sports club to host and acknowledge the Pride Cup - it is one of our premier events we love to share with the Hunter community.
