Brunswick Zebras are deeply saddened by the passing on Sunday 21st June of our beloved committee member and long standing coach, Robert Colla.

Robert came to our club in 2004 as the first coach of our Under 12 Girls’ team. He continued to coach girls and women almost every year for the next sixteen years. He contributed enormously to last year’s Women’s State 3 team’s premiership, but more impor

David Baker is retiring

David Baker has confirmed that he will be leaving the Brunswick Zebras FC to move interstate. This closes a chapter on Senior Men’s Football at the club as he has been without doubt our greatest player since the Senior Men team was established in its current form. We would like to thank him for his dedication to the club

Guidelines for Training at Brunswick Zebras

Members of Brunswick Zebras will need to follow the guidelines below when returning to training and games.

Brunswick Zebras Training recommencing with effect Monday, 22nd June 2020

We can confirm that training can commence with effect Monday, 22nd June (unless further changes are announced tomorrow).

Full contact training can take place for Mini Roos and Juniors, non contact for over the age of 18 - in groups of no more than 20 (plus coach).

Your Coach/Team Manager will confirm with you the venue/time/date of training. Please note this may have changed for the short term

Returning to Training

We are finally able to get teams back to training, we have prepared a health plan and we expect to restart next week. We are waiting for a final sign off to our plan from the Moreland Council. We will commence training at Balfe and Sumner Park to ensure we can meet the requirements of the health plan and we can control numbers.

2020 Training and Games

Following on from last week's email, there are many who have expressed interest in a return to training and playing in 2020.

To that end, we are submitting the required documentation to council to facilitiate this for their approval and return.

We will also be advising Football Victoria by the end of this week which teams wish to resume playing.

Are you interested in training and playing again for 2020?

As previously mentioned, at Brunswick Zebras, the health and well being of all of our members is our number one priority. With support from teams and families, we can resume some training for teams that wish to recommence.

If you would like to return to training and eventually playing, could you please let your coach and team manager know ASAP so we can plan for our Covid Safe future.

Restarting Football

At Brunswick Zebras, the health and well being of all of our members is our number one priority. Your committee has been liaising with Moreland City Council, Melbourne City Council, Football Victoria and other relevant bodies to determine the how we might best restart football for our members.

Football Victoria has announced that the temporary suspension on all competitions and football activities has been extended until May 31, 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, in line with the release from Football Federation Australia earlier this evening (extract from Football Victoria email)

All grassroots football activity in Australia has been suspended

FFA advises that effective from 12:00am on 18 March 2020, all sanctioned grassroots football activity in Australia will be suspended until 14 April 2020.

The decision will take effect from 12:00am on Wednesday, 18 March 2020 until Tuesday, 14 April 2020.

Training tonight / COVID-19 as at 16 March 2020

Following guidelines from Football Victoria as attached, training can take place tonight. Further information will be provided later tonight from the committee.

Sarcoma Awareness Month

Brunswick Zebras is proud to partner with Australia New Zealand Sarcoma Association to raise awareness for bone and soft tissue cancers in Sarcoma Awareness Month.

Each year, hundreds of Aussie will be diagnosed with this rare and complex cancer, so we’re going yellow in support!

Passing of Dave Ballard

It is with saddened hearts that we inform the Zebras community that team manager and father, Dave Ballard, passed away last month after a long battle with illness.

Fun at Female Football Week Mini Gala

Brunswick Zebras junior girls enjoyed a fun night on Wednesday hosted by Moreland City FC at Campbell Reserve. Two matches were played using Summer Sevens small-sided rules, followed by pizza and a quiz for Female Football Week giveaway prizes.
