Get in the Game
The AFL's Get in the Game aims to:
- increase the number of umpires
- improve the enjoyment of umpiring for umpires
- improve the match day environment with club and spectator behaviour
- prevent the loss of umpires because of poor match day environments
Learning Umpire Program
The AFL has made a change to the existing Learning Umpire (Green Shirt) Program using green vests with the words “TRAINEE UMPIRE” clearly displayed. These vests will be made available for all learning umpires to wear.
- Wearing the green vest identifies that umpires are undertaking their first year of umpiring and that they are off limits to any criticism or abuse from spectators and officials.
National Umpire Acreditation Scheme (NUAS)
Once you begin umpiring the NUAS is the AFL's national training program for Australian Football umpires. Our umpire coaches give practical, individualised sessions in the three disciplines of field, boundary and goal umpiring.
- The AFL has determined that all umpires need to be accredited or undergoing accreditation from 2013 to be able to umpire a match
- Level 1 Development Accreditation is $12 in 2018
- Level 2 Advanced Accreditation is free for all disciplines in 2018
- Reaccreditation for Levels 1 and 2 is free in 2018
Umpire Registration
WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country charges an annual registration fee for each individual umpire. In 2018 the fees will be:
- Senior umpires - $30
- Junior umpires (under 18 at January 1, 2018) - $19
