Welcome to season 2013, a landmark year for our great club.
2013 marks a new beginning for the senior teams as we make the return to the second division with a renewed and youthful list and newly appointed coach, Daniel Xuereb at the helm. We’re very lucky to have Daniel, a life-long Sunshine Heights man with the skills and credentials to lead the next generation of SHFC players to on-field success.
We are also extremely proud to announce the beginning of a new junior program at Sunshine Heights. Through the hard work and generosity of individual volunteers with the support of corporate sponsors, the Brimbank City Council and AFL Victoria, the program offers children at the under 9 and under 11 level a chance to get their start in football, regardless of the cultural or financial barriers that may otherwise stand in their way. We are very proud to have the opportunity to be a part of an initiative that will cement our club’s reputation as a valued and respected part of both the local community and broader sporting community.
Coaching appointments for Juniors are underway, with Renato Olivieri, our 2012 Auskick coach and coordinator stepping in to the role for under 11s and a current vacancy for under 9s. Anyone interested in coaching the kids should contact Michael Grima, our football manager, on 0421 257 256.
New players for Seniors, Reserves, under 11s or under 9s are all very welcome. Just turn up to training on the following nights and join in:
Juniors (u11s & u9s) – Tuesday & Friday 4.45pm – 6.00pm
Seniors/Reserves – Tuesday & Thursday 6.00pm – 7.30pm
All training sessions are at Ainsworth Reserve, Glengala Road, Sushine West.
Behind the scenes, a combination of the old guard of volunteers and a few fresh faces are working tirelessly to ensure that the season goes off without a hitch. Among the new helpers, I’m please to say that Dan “QLD” Ward has taken over website design and will launch a new site very soon.
