A Proud History
The Simonds story is the quintessential Australian success story. From a long line of builders, Gary Simonds' dream was to build the great Australian home.
In 1949, Gary began his carpentry apprenticeship. While working as a carpenter during the day, he undertook a three-year construction course at night school to further his skills. Upon completion, he formed Simonds and built a small number of client-contracted homes.
By 1968, Simonds had built its first display home featuring the care and attention to detail that has become our hallmark.
Gary's son, Mark, joined the company in 1973, and immediately established more display centres around Melbourne, each showcasing up to four award-winning homes. Young families embraced the concept of being able to build their own homes and flocked to our display centres. The number of homes we built annually quadrupled within a decade.
In 2004, Mark's son Rhett followed his father and grandfather into the business.
Today, with three generations of builders providing hands-on experience, our commitment to building quality, affordable and stylish homes has never been stronger.
