Rd 5 Match Report Vs Mines
The Colts got us started and took to the field with 15 players against a pretty experienced Mines outfit.
A number of the boys battled hard throughout, but it was hard for them to match up against a far more older and experienced group of players making it difficult to get value for effort on the scoreboard. But in a sign that despite the result, Paps wont stand for the players not giving a 100%, a couple of the boys received some firm words of guidance at half time. I think the result most weeks is inevitable given the experience and age of the boys, however the effort is one thing that is a non-negotiable with Paps and his firm but fair approach is going to guide and teach these boys some very valuable skills as they develop in their careers. The best advice they receive is to ignore the scoreboard. Continue to improve and develop and embrace the challenge. It's fantastic to see so many of the boys keeping their heads up and still enjoying playing footy regardless of the results which is what it is all about.

With the League Team still missing 7 players and a number of other Ressies Players unavailable due to their own work commitments, it was another tough day at the office for the big Monster in charge of his boys.
We managed to rally together 16 players which included 5 of the Colts kids stepping in to help out. Again, a massive shout out to these young lads who don't have to play, but put their hand up to help out the club and ensure a team takes the field.
Congratulations to club stalwart Alan Ballard who ran out for his game as Captain of the Reserves team. Was a shame he had to leave to go to work at half time, but he certainly lead from the front throwing his body into contest like a psycho pit bull.
Trent Mcauliffe had the arduous task of trying to contain Mines forward Matt James and made a pretty good fist of it in the first half despite James managing to kick quite a few. Given every entry forward went to James, big Trent halved most contests but simply couldn't do too much with the supply. Gary Miller took the job in the second half and did what not too many have done in the past which was to run off James at every opportunity. We may have learned something from this for future games.
Victor Bermingham ran himself ragged all day and played a great game. The young fella knows where it's at for him. He's blessed with a great deal of talent and is one of the young fellas that should be dominating in the League team and taking the club to the next level. Hope to see you on the track soon Vic so you can earn that opportunity and place even more pressure on the League team for spots going forward.
Of much disappointment was the knee injury sustained by Justin Reynolds playing in just his second game back for the club after a number of seasons not playing. We hope to see you recover quickly Justin and thank you for your efforts in coming back down to play and helping the Ressies out.

The League team got underway next and dominated play from the outset. The game was largely played in Kambalda's forward half for the first 15 minutes of the game, unfortunately a lack of efficiency going forward again hurt the team and only two goals could be put on the board. Mines steadied and managed to go in at quarter time only 4 points behind Kambalda despite the dominance. Mines kicked off the second half and had the majority of play early, but they too were unable to convert their opportunities into goals. momentum swung half way through the second quarter and Kambalda kicked 2 quick goals. Another quick entry forward should have seen 3 goals kicked in as many minutes, however a crucial goal was missed from 10 metres out that hurt momentum. Mines pinched a late one in the quarter to go in only 7 points behind, although the lead should have been close to 4 goals.
Failure to put scoreboard pressure on again come back to bite us as the boys failed to fire a shot a the start of the third quarter. Mines piled on 5 unanswered goals in the first 5 minutes of the quarter and really put us on the back foot. Their midfield got on top and they made the most of kicking in long to the advantage side of Nugent who got on the end of a few after Jason Dowling more than held his own in the first half. A further 2 goals over the next 10 minutes had seen Mines kick 8 unanswered goals from the end of the second quarter. The boys rallied to try and slow down the momentum and managed to get back into the contest dominating the second half of the quarter. Again failure to kick crucial goals when needed came back to bite us and we could only add 1.5 for the quarter compared to Mines 7 goals straight. Going in 4 goals down at three quarter time, the boys were still in the contest, however Mines shut down any hope of a comeback with the opening two goals of the last quarter within a couple of minutes to go 6 goals clear. The scoreboard was a slap in the face for the lads as the game was a lot closer than that. But they learned some very valuable lessons and realise that to win games of footy at any level, a consistent four quarter effort is required. What is great to see however, is the improvement every week and a win is not that far away.
