Match Report Rd 2 Vs Railways
Apologies for the delay in the report.
A disappointing day as far as the scoreboard was concerned did not reflect the passion and will that was shown by all three grades against Railways.
The Colts got us underway and it was very pleasing to be able to put a team out on the park and give the lads the opportunity to play a game. Playing mostly undersized, the experienced and predominantly top aged Colts team of Railways were always going to be a massive challenge. The lads battled gallantly throughout and held their heads high despite the result. It's great to see these boys rallying together despite a tumultuous start to their season. Having them playing footy is crucial as they're the future of our club and will be a force in the future as they gain valuable size and experience in the coming years.
The final result was Railways 32.16.208 def Kambalda 2.2.14

The Ressies were up next and were the victims of an extensive injury list and unavailability of 10 first choice League players in addition to 8 of their own players not being available due to injury or work commitments. One thing Railways have never lacked is depth and a quantity of League quality players running around in their Reserves side made for a tough day for all the guys who answered the desperate call up for help to make up the required numbers. It was great to see a number of previous players coming back to play a game after a few years out. A number of Colts can be thanked for stepping up for a second game also.
The blokes pulling on the jumper definitely wore it with pride and gave it their all. Ultimately the skill and polish of a slick Railways outfit made their task a very difficult one.

Missing a number of first choice players including Ben Andrews, Jordy Daly, Jamie Hayes, Adam Bovalino, Steve Simpson, Matthew Hill, Matthew Warburton and Dave Manning, the tough challenge that is Railways was made all that bit harder. Despite the players missing, league opportunities were presented to a number of Colts and Ressies players stepping into the side and 22 committed players took to the field.
From the outset, the players never backed down. The heat on the ball carrier was intense and both teams were very battered and bruised from an extremely taxing and physical game of footy that was played in very good spirits. The loss of Monster Murphy in the second quarter proved to be very detrimental and when Mitch Cloughessy was forced from the ground in the third quarter having succumbed to an injury to his ribs from a sensational shepherd in the 1st, the flood gates opened in the with Railways piling on 9 unanswered goals to break the game wide open.
The lads continued to fight in the last quarter and didn't stop putting their bodies on the line until the final siren. The end result was absolutely no justification for the way the guys played and the game was a lot more evenly contested and fought out than the scoreboard suggested.
Massive thanks to all the players, wives, girlfriends, mums and supporters who provided casserole teas at the end of the night as we welcomed Railways for an enjoyable dinner. Thanks to everyone helping out in the kitchen with serving and preparing the food also.
