The Heavyweights Sink in Melbourne
The much vaunted Oceania Heavyweight lifters met their match today by the Yarra River in Melbourne as all 6 failed to reach the medal dias.
India continued its domination of the lifting competition with Gold and Silvre while New Zealand took Bronze.

Sheba Deireragea Brings it Home For Nauru
Nauru finally crack their first medal for the Melbourne 2006 Games after a disappointing outing for them. In Manchester under the old rules they secured 17 medals.
Sheba was 2nd with a snatch of 93 Kg but failed at her 2nd and 3rd attempt at 113Kg.

Majeti Fetrie from Ghana enjoys his golden moment.In the Men's 77kg Weightlifting event, Majeti Fetrie from Ghana has won gold with India's Mohammed Zakir Asdullah winning silver and Pakistan's Muhammad Irfan Irfan winning bronze.

Rita Kari Stars for PNG
PNG's Rita Kari, inspired by her cousin, Dika Toua, lifted well beyond expectations to take fourth place in the Women's 53Kg class at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Trained at home in PNG, Rita surprised all by being only 1 KG short of silver.

PNG lifter Dika Toua claimed a silver medal despite injuring her leg in the process of attempting to lift 108Kg in the Clean and Jerk Category.
Having already cleared 78Kg in the Snatch and 103Kg in her first attempt, she was assured of silver....

Some of the Commonwealth's top female weightlifters have issued a strong challenge for both their competitors and Commonwealth records in March with an intense training regime at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in Samoa.

Nauru lifter launches smallest country to seventh
Amongst the seventy nations competing at the Weightlifting World Championships in Qatar, you could assume that China, with a population of 1.3 billion people, might dominate. But no one told sensational Pacific Island lifter Yukio Peter from Nauru, population 10,000, who produced one of the greatest performances in the history of Oceanic Weightlifting as he won a silver medal in the clean and jerk in the 77kg category.
