The AFL Diversity Cup is a brand new initiative being launched by AFLQ and AFLDD giving those from Multicultural and Indigenous backgrounds the opportunity to play a highlight game on Saturday 8th August.
The concept is designed to entice those from Indigenous and Multicultural backgrounds to try the great game of AFL and comes on the back of great work previously done in this space by the University AFC who will be hosting the 2015 event.
AFLQ are currently identifying grade 5-6 students (boys and girls) from across the Downs who come from these diversity backgrounds to attend the upcoming trials day on Monday 27th July (flyer attached). From these trials an Indigenous and Multicultural team will be selected to play against each other in the first ever Diversity Cup which just happens to coincide with AFL Multicultural week.
Darling Heights SS head of sport Peter Naumann will be coaching the Multicultural team for this event while Dusty Wilson will take charge of the Indigenous team. As funding has been sourced for the event all participants will get the opportunity to play at no cost. Other promotional activities such as a welcome to country presentation, community stalls and diversity branded giveaways are being organised for this community event which is set to be a massive day for all involved.
Don't hesitate to contact Regional Manager Keith Webb if you have any enquiries regarding this event. 0438 890 379
