Good morning,
Hope all is well, in this interesting year. We have increased communications with potential AFL Masters players within Mount Isa and the Burdekin. Hopefully these areas will be able to join us for training and/or games in the future.
Please keep monitoring authorised information from:
For AFL Masters Townville, our main area for information updates, in the club Facebook - Townsville Sharks AFL Masters. We also have a club website.
Over the last few days to months, we have been communicating with all AFL Masters Club Presidents (Country), AFL Townsville Senior Presidents and players to review options moving forward. I had a call recently from AFLQ, we discussed options to assist the local Senior competition. The AFL Masters in Townsville already have several players playing in the local competition, with a high average age (approx. 50) in the club, this number has limited further support; however, we welcome any AFL players in the local competition that may not get a game to join us in training and/or intra club games.
A big thank you to the committee and coaches that have permitted this weekend to make our 6 weeks or training in accordance with COVID-19 protocols. Last weekend we had our first intra club game and this is an area we would like to explore more frequently. The more numbers we get at training, the more we can do. Dean has led the coaching with support from may, in particular Dave Lindsay and Kane Logan.
Much appreciation and thankyou for the Hermit Park Tiger’s and Curra Swans AFL Clubs that permit the use of their ovals. We are looking into other opportunities for training to keep the variety open. If you would like to explore the return of Wednesday training sessions please let us know and we can adjust to make if happen if the requirement from member’s is there. We currently train from 1000 everyu Sunday on either the Neil French, Muldoon or RMS ovals, that are all located together. This time will remain unless advised otherwise. Please monitor the club Facebook for updates.
Expression of interests have been requested for future games and after some very good feedback from the Whitsunday Bald Eagles, our next game is schedule on Magnetic Island 08 Aug 20. This is not far away, so please let us know, so we can refine and make this happen. I have been able to secure some funding and we are working towards options with the Ferry to assist players. More information to follow.
It is extremely important to ensure the registration process is complete and appropriate fees paid, to ensure adequate cover during training and games. We have a player Terms and Conditions of Participation, to assist with a deeper level of understanding. In the event Sporting Pulse experiences shortfalls (and we continue to experience this every year), we also have a registration form to assist. Sporting Pulse must be used to complete the registration. If you need any assistance please let us know.

Our Vice President Karl Luck is leading the Grant Acquittal process with full committee support. This is important to action so we can review other future option to assist the club and its members.
Great news our Club Constitution has been approved by the Office of Fair Training as at 08 Apr 20, main points:
- End of financial year now 31 Oct in each year, this will permit auditing of financials and an AGM prior to the end of the year. Previously the financial year was 31 Dec.
- Life members voted at the 2018 AGM are now authorised from 08 Apr 20 as we now have a constitution to match the requirements of their membership. The life members from 2018 are:
- Anne Growden
- Nev Growden
- Maurie Soars
- Committee meeting frequency changes from one every two months, to a more realistic one every four months or as required to maintain business operations. This is in accordance with the Incorporation Act and reduces unnecessary over governance.
Any questions please let us know, we are here to assist you in the AFL Masters journey as we move through our current challenges. Find below, a recent article to promote and a photo from our first session after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.
Cheers
