ROUND EIGHT REVIEWS | 19 and Under Netball

After a disappointing loss in Round Seven, the 19's girls stood strong to win against Riddell 39-21.

The first quarter was impressive being 14-5 at the first break. Kate Mahon, playing in wing defence, was on fire in the first, backing herself in on the Riddell centre pass, coming up with three clean turnovers. Gemma was back to her best in goals, rewarding the team, by shooting 11 of her 12 attempts.

Some tinkering with different line ups in the next two quarters resulted in some successes in the second quarter but some not so great outcomes in the third. The third quarter was by far our worst of the game scoring just four goals to Riddell's nine. The girls struggled to find their rhythm across the court and entry into the goal ring was proving difficult. This led to a number of turnovers in Riddell's favour.

The teams balance was restored at the last break, as Gemma went back into goals and our midcourt was tweaked.  The girls were asked to take control of the game by dictating play instead of chasing their players and they were rewarded, turning on a fantastic display of netball to take out the final quarter 11-2.

Gemma was outstanding once again, providing our feeders with a strong target under the ring, scoring 26 of our goals at 96-percent efficiency.  Abbey, Macca and Kates defensive work was great to watch with eight intercepts and eight tips between them. Their pressure over the ball also created turnovers by their team mates.

The team's ability to convert the turnovers into goals is really pleasing and will stand the team in good stead for the remainder of the season.

Well done girls, a solid effort on court while we worked to test and refine our combinations.  We have another home game this week as we look forward to taking on Broadford. Go Hawks!
