When can I start playing basketball?

The Summer 2020 season (October 2019 to March 2020) will have 55 plus teams from the age groups of U8s through to Young Men / Women competing in the Werribee Basketball Association domestic competition.

We will continue to limited the number of male teams to 7-8 per age group as we focus on growing our girls program, with the target of reaching a minimum of 3 teams per age group. If you would like to express your interest for the upcoming Summer 2020 season please email hoppersbc@hotmail.com.

As a club we will do our best to get them started in basketball. However we encourage potential new players to also check out the local WBA Aussie Hoops program being offered during the school terms, further information is available on their Aussie Hoops web page.

When to get started:

Age group 5 and under

All players must be five (5) years of age in order to take the court for their first game. “Turning” 5 during the season does not permit the Player to commence playing competition.

This would mean;

  1. A Player turning 5 on 1 January, can commence playing on the 1 January.
  2. A Player turning 5 on 31 December, cannot commence playing until the 31 December

Our club would consider new players aged 4 or 5 to participate in our regular training session until they turn 5yo, but we highly recommence for all players under the age of 6yo to try out Aussie Hoops.

Age group over 5

All new players over the age of 5 are encouraged to commence playing at the lowest level of the junior domestic competition unless a player has had previous experience.

New players are welcomed to come along to our training sessions to try-out free for a two week period. If they are keen to continue but the team doesn't have any vacanct positions, they can continue to train for the remainder of the season for a small training fee of $30.00 per season.

How to get started:

First drop us an email to hoppersbc@hotmail.com with your details and your children names and DOBs. Then we suggest that you check out the following pages that will help both you and your parents understand what playing basketball is all about. From their we will contact you or your parents and begin this exciting new venture.
