AFL Canada is pleased to announce the addition of staff to its women's program in preparation for the 2020 International Cup.
Head Coach Candace Kwan has selected two assistant coaches and a team manager, and will continue to meet with candidates in the coming weeks to round out her team.
Brendan Major - Assistant Coach
Major has been a longtime supporter of the national program. In 2014, both the men's and women's teams benefitted from his assistance as a trainer, strength and conditioning coach, and nutritional consultant, as well as his help with on-field duties on game day. He is currently the Head coach of Essendon Football club's VFLW team, and was the forward line coach of Collingwood's AFLW side in 2016. His coaching experience also includes a head coach role at the former Eastern Devils VFL team and high performance coach for the Victorian women's academy.
Sarah Ennor - Assistant Coach
As a longstanding player within the national program, Sarah has participated in all of Canada's international competitions since 2011 (though from the sidelines in Edmonton in 2013 due to injury). Since 2016, she has coached the High Park Demons' women's team. Sarah has been a regular volunteer within her club executive, AFL Ontario, and served on the AFL Canada board of directors. Sarah will bring broad experience to the coaching staff, and will be able to support the program by understanding multiple perspectives.
Lyndsay Smith - Team Manager
Lyndsay Smith has been appointed Team Manager for the women's program. Lyndsay has been a player since the team's inception in 2010. She has earned the respect of her teammates and is known for having a great sense of humour, being calm under pressure, well organized, and extremely positive. Her experience as a player and deep relationships within the footy community in Canada will allow her to run the team operations effectively.
