The Mitcham Football Club would like to congratulate Daniel Johnson on what will be his 200th game for the club when the Reserves run out against Mooroolbark tomorrow at 12pm.
DJ came to the club in what was then the Under 18’s system and has played the majority of his 200 games in the Senior side. Known mainly as a key defender throughout his career he is also famous for his thumping kick and the odd barrel every now and then. DJ is as popular off the field as he is on and has earned the respect of the Mitcham faithful over many years.
Senior President Matt McCubbin said “DJ has been a terrific person to have around our footy club for a very long period of time. He is not only a very talented footballer but definitely one of the most animated characters of our club off the field…especially after 10pm. 200 game milestones are a rarity in local footy these days due to the commitment required but DJ has always been one to accept a challenge and hit the required result, this milestone is no different. I have a huge amount of admiration for DJ and the way he goes about his footy. It’s been a long but fun journey to get to this point and I have no doubt he will do his best to make sure his side gets the desired result come 12pm tomorrow. He is not one for a lot of fuss but this is something we as a football club will acknowledge with the respect it deserves. Congratulations on 200 terrific games and I look forward to seeing you continue doing your thing on the park for the rest of 2021 and maybe even the future.”
Reserves coach Steve Jordan said “Great achievement for DJ to play 200 games for our football club. Most of his 200 games have been at Senior level where he showed his enormous talent to play this game. Unassuming, head down and just get the job done is DJ’s style. This along with being just a great MFC person has meant he’s one of our most respected. Congrats mate and well deserved.”
We look forward to seeing the Tiger Army out in force tomorrow at Mooroolbark in what becomes another huge week for all three sides and of course DJ’s 200th game.
