Well round one is now done and dusted, and the Tigers are smiling this week with 3 gusty wins against very good opposition in Wantirna South. It was a big day for the footy club after what seems an entirety since our last game. The Junior Family day didn’t let the wet weather dampen their spirits and once again delivered a great day, We officially used our new rooms for the first time, un furled our 2019 Premiership flag, had an over whelming response to our NEW Inner Sanctum membership and the rooms were packed after the game. BIG THANK YOU to the Mitcham Volunteers that put in the hard yards in preparing for today – Before , after and during. Its great to see so many members of our club striving to make the Mitcham Football Club the best place it can be. BIG THANK YOU also to the Wantirna South Football club for there participation in our flag un furling, cleaning our rooms after the game and joining us on mass in the rooms afterwards. DON’T Forget to CHECK IN Tomorrow / Monday when our resident photographer Debbie Stingell will have some great shots of today’s action…
Under 19s Coaches Report
A brand new Under 19 team ran out to represent the Club on Saturday and it is fair to say we continue to work on getting a thorough understanding of our capabilities.
Having been able to bring into the Club some very good talent, along with a good mix of our 2019 Under 17's team we took on a very capable Wantirna South.
IT WASN’T pretty – in fact, at times it was a little ugly – but I am really proud that our boys were able to find a way and get the Win. During our last Practice Match at The Basin and again on the weekend our squad has shown some real maturity, particularly when we have been tested.
This group of young men is still very much still evolving and developing, and Saturday victory was a great learning, for all of us.
Assistant Coaches Steve Richardson, Andrew Moore and myself were most pleased with our efforts to keep ourselves in the game, when at times Wantirna South were able to get a couple of goals up some trying conditions. The fact we could lift our intensity and were able to overrun The Devils at the end is a testament to the work that the boys have put in on their fitness off and on the track. The boy’s persistence and perseverance throughout and in particular during the last quarter made it a very good win.
Among our better players were: (in no particular order)
Tom Donelly, Nathan Crampton, Danny Nguyen, Jack Coates, Matthew Peter-Budge, Josh Fulton

Reserves Coaches Report
Starting with a well deserved win for our boys was reward for some very hard work in the pre-season, Wantirna Sth have always had a strong 2’s side however we adapted well to the tough conditions and really dominated territory for the game. Didn’t get the scoreboard result we should’ve in the 1st half kicking 1 goal 7 with 2-3 miss’s that we should convert. I said to the boys kick the first one after half time and we will run away with it and that’s what happened with 6 goals in the 2nd half, our structures were terrific as we locked the ball in our front half and they struggled to get it out, our run, intensity and ball use was just superior and we deserved the win against good opposition. Very even 4 qtr performance was pleasing which made it difficult to pull out individuals. Next week we face Montrose down from Premier so we are expecting that they will be handy, thanks to the Club and supporters and all that helped out for just an huge day for Tigers.

Senior Coaches Report
After having no footy in 2020 all the boys were excited to be pulling on the Mitcham jumper once again. Jumping up a division was always going to be an unknown and coming up against Wantirna Sth who we have struggled to beat recently was always going to be a difficult first up assignment.
In a typical cold windy winters day Wantirna Sth came out of the blocks well and had us on the back foot early and skipped out to an 11 point lead at quarter time. We had a much better 2nd quarter with our work around the contest improving and we narrowed the gap to 4 points at half time.
In the 3rd quarter we continued to play good footy and took a handy 6 point lead into the last term.
The last quarter was a fierce scrap with both sides not giving an inch, in the end we were able to come away with a 12 point win. Thanks to all the committee and volunteers who put in a mountain of work to get everything up and ready for us to utilize the fantastic new facilities, and thanks to all the supporters who came down on a cold windy day to help us get across the line, it was great to have local footy back and see all the supporters back in full voice.
