Two wins, a narrow loss and a draw in the senior game rounded out round 8 for the Tigers this week away at Mooroolbark. The Netball Girls got the ball rolling with a solid win Friday night over Coldstream 28 to 20 and were never really troubled.
Our young Under 19s continued their recent run of good form with a 28 point win over the Mustangs. The boys set the game up early as everyone played their role. Irving with 4 and Pirzas 3 were dominated up forward. Irving, Richardson, Powson, Ross, Jarvis and Giles were all named in the best.
Reserves really took it to the top of the table Mustangs falling just two points short. With our reserves having a nice mix of youth and experience the boys had their chances late but couldn’t seal the deal. All single goal kickers with Finch, Hill, Menzies, Glanville, Guerin and Raath all named in the best
Seniors played out a thriller, after trailing by 4 goals at half time, a strong 3rd term got us within 7 points at ¾ time. Both teams had their chances in the last but when the siren sounded scores were level. Smyth with two was our leading goal kicker with best players named as Toohey, Burkitt, Glossop, Barro Uren and Smyth.

Under 19s Coaches Report
This week we took on Mooroolbark who were sitting in 4th position on the ladder, one game clear of us so our focus was simple. We jumped out of the blocks well with a 4 Goal to 1 first term and by midway of the 2nd it was 8 goals to 1. However the Mustangs started to play some good footy as well closeing the half time lead to 5 Goals. The 2nd half stepped up a gear as 2 good young sides went toe to toe, with our boys challenged in the last, Jayden Irving who had played well in the midfield all day booted a couple from full forward as we held strong to run out winners by 28 points. It was a solid team effort as we came away with a very important and 3rd win in a row.

Reserves Coach Report
Heading to Heights reserve to face undefeated Mooroolbark who were 7-0 this season the boys were much focussed to get the win, however we went down by just 2 points. Against top sides you have to take the chances on offer and we didn’t kicking 4 points to 2 goals in the 1st qtr, we really should’ve have been 3-4 goals up. Our style of play was great as they struggled to keep up with our run and switching the footy, to the boy’s credit their pressure and effort was terrific all day, unfortunately some skill errors cost us dearly as good sides make you pay! Matt Hill was outstanding on the wing his ability to run and use the footy the highlight, Jett on the ball was strong and used his speed to break away many times, Blake Lee performed well at CHB and Menz / Danger were solid at up forward. Disappointing not to get the win as I thought we played the better footy, but we learn and improve and we all feel we are doing this each week. Great support once again form the Mitcham army, thank you!

Senior Coach Report
This week we travelled out to Mooroolbark to see if we could make it back to back wins. The challenge for us was to back up the high level intensity that we had played with the previous week against Mulgrave.
Disappointingly our first quarter was very poor, our tackle count was down and we were hurting ourselves with poor disposal by foot. We regrouped in the 2nd quarter and wrestled away the ascendancy but unfortunately didn’t get the rewards on the scoreboard and went into the main break 26 points down.
Despite the deficit we went into the 3rd quarter confident we could get back into the game on the scoreboard. 3 early goals to Ryan, Parente and Smyth put us right back into the contest as we restricted Mooroolbark to 3 points and closed the gap to 7 points going into the last quarter.
We controlled the play for much of the last quarter and when Tom Burkitt snapped truly we were 6 points in front. With a few minutes to go Mooroolbark marked and kicked a bomb from outside 50 for their only goal of the half which levelled the scores.
Both sides battled hard for the remaining couple of minutes but to no avail as the siren sounded leaving both sides feeling empty and having to share the 4 points.
Jake Toohey worked his tail off all day on a wing and Jesse Uren gave us some good bounce out of defence.
Thanks to everyone who came out to watch us we really appreciate your support.
