Excellent week for the footy club last week both on and off the field. Seniors and Reserves both had good wins against Mulgrave away. 1st XVIII worked a lot harder this week and got the result they were after with young Jake Parente booting 6. Ryan, Gordon, Rudd, Zac McCubbin, and Miles all named in the best. 2nd XVIII with a great mix of youth and experience won a tight contest against the Lions with Hoegel responding in the best possible way with 6 majors and the young blokes in Barro, Parente, Kable and Sullivan all named in the best.
Then Saturday night The 6th annual Mitcham Football Club Comedy night was again an outstanding success, WOW WEE what a crowd - 400 people and not a spare seat in the house, Nor a dry eye as Lehmo and Hughesy WOWED the big crowd. Great effort by the Mitcham Faithfull to turn out in big numbers both at the event then in set up and pack up WELL DONE ALL. Great to have councillors Prue Cutts and Ben Stennett with us Saturday night who made the announcement that Council has allocated funding in the 2017/18 Proposed Budget to work with the Mitcham Sports Club to scope and develop a concept for an upgrade to our current pavilions. Reserves Coaches Report
Never an easy place to go and win out at Mulgrave so it was good to get the chocolates, we started very well kicking 4 goals with 16 tackles for the qtr and clearly on top of them, second qtr was an arm wrestle as they lifted their pressure and we dropped off a little to head into half time with a 4 goal lead. Our 3rd qtr was poor as they kicked the first 3 goals, our accountability and voice wasn’t good enough and they found another gear, to our credit though we fought back late in the term to kick 2 and take a 20 point lead into the last. Once again it was battle however we stood up to break even in the qtr and win by 3 goals. Our best is very good but we just aren’t applying this across a whole game and we have to improve. Chris Hoegel was terrific kicking 5, Michael Barro down back was super all day, Mark Parenete’s run and Josh Kable in the ruck were also very good. Big test against Knox this week having only lost 1 game and that was by a kick to the undefeated Croydon, I know the lad’s are keen for this. Once again our supporters came out as one which was great, so thanks to you all.

Senior Coaches Report
We traveled out to Mulgrave this week in what is always a tough road trip no matter where they sit on the ladder. We were keen to get back on the winners list after 2 disappointing weeks in a row. We focused on playing a team brand of footy, bringing our tackling pressure and standing up when we were challenged and making sure that we didn't have any lapses during the game. The first quarter set the standard for us as our defensive pressure was fantastic with Jayden Hoegel leading the way with his intensity around the footy. We kept them goalless and managed to kick 3 goals to have a handy lead at 1/4 time. During the next 3 quarters the game ebbed and flowed a bit as we would kick away to a 5 goal lead and then Mulgrave would reply to come back within striking distance. Pleasingly when we were challenged we were able to steady and always hold them at arms length. Jake Parente was dangerous all day snagging 6 majors and Lockie Ryan played a defensive role for us and led the way with 12 tackles. A big challenge presents us this week as we take on the undefeated Knox team, we hope to see all our supporters out there to support us.
