The Doncaster East Lions are the Kings of The jungle this week after out classing the Mitcham Tigers on Saturday. The Tigers first ever visit to Zerbes Reserve wasn’t a pleasant one as a large Mitcham crowd had little to cheer about as we were totally out played and perhaps the largest crowd noise was when the host club run out of liquid refreshments just before half time.
The Reserves on the other hand reversed their recent run of outs with a solid 20 point win, with the highlight being some of last years under 19s really starting to have an impact.
The under 19s had to separate from the seniors this week due to Donny east not having a team and took on a strong Croydon outfit @ Croydon. While the boys played some good footy in patches it wasnt enough to get the job done and they are going to need to learn to play 4 quarters if they’re going to match it with Lilydale and Croydon who appear to be the form teams of the under 19 Competition
With NO Senior Football next weekend due to Inter league the bye comes at the perfect time for us so we can freshen up and attack the next block of six games with the same intensity that sees us right in the mix with a 3 win 3 loss record. Saturday Week we return to a venue that holds fond memories for us in a must win game against an old foe that we haven’t played for a number of years in East Burwood. Unfortunately our under 19s are again separated from the Seniors and hopefully they can repeat the result from round one when we last visited Mount Waverley and return to East Burwood to cheer on the senior boys.

Under 19s Coaches Report
It was another big challenge for our boys taking on the in form Croydon on their deck this week. Our start wasn't too bad but our inability to hit some simple targets and make good decisions cost us. Our second quarter was far from acceptable in our eyes. We paid little respect to our opposition who made the most of every opportunity. To our credit we had a real dip in the second half. A seven goal third quarter got us back in the game heading into the last term but Croydon finished off full of run and blew the margin out significantly. Tom Lucas, Ben Joseph and Josh Kable were terrific all day and we saw some huge improvement from several players coming back from injury. We understand the importance of putting together four quarters of competitive footy and until we do that we will continue to fall short. The week off will benefit us with some key players to return after the bye. Thanks to our parents and supporters who came out to support us. Congrats to Jordy and his reserves in their win and we look forward to getting behind our Seniors to make sure they return to the winners list after the break.

Reserves Coaches Report
Heading to East Doncaster 2 wins from out 5 matches it was a crucial game to win and get back on an even keel after 2 consecutive defeats. We started well in the first qtr to lead by a couple of goals and we consolidated in the second to lead at the main break by 18 points. We knew the 3 rd qtr was important and to their credit the came out and kicked the first 2 to close our lead and it was game on, we were kicking into the wind in the last so our effort had to be spot on as well as our concentration to stick to our plan and take the game on. To the boys credit we did we outscored them to win by 20 points, our run and carry and ruck dominance was the key lead by Finchy across half back who was terrific all day, Biggy gave another solid effort and Brad Wotyon was outstanding at CHF taking at least 10 marks for the day. We took our chances also with Dylan Wylde the main goal kicker, all in all a very pleasing performance to now be at 3:3 considering we have played the better sides so far this year. We are all looking forward to the break is week and we can't wait for to take on East Burwood next. Thank you to all the supporters that travelled this week we very much appreciate the support.

Seniors Coaches Report
This week was a very pivotal game for us, with both side sitting 3-2 it was very important for both sides to get a win and stay ahead of glut of teams. Our first quarter was very positive with our tackling pressure and contested ball work all at a high level, against the breeze we held them to 2 goals which was a good result. Unfortunately, in the 2nd quarter we were unable to maintain our good play with them getting on top around the stoppages and driving the ball inside their forward 50 too easily they skipped out to a handy 23 point lead. The first 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter was extremely disappointing and saw them kick 4-5 goals to open up a large lead and have us facing a 46 point deficit at 3/4 time. Unfortunately, it was much of the same in the last quarter as their midfield continued with the ascendancy and they ended up with a comfortable 12 goal victory. We now have 2 weeks to stew over the effort that we put forward and make sure we do everything in our power to ensure that we never see a repeat of that again. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us, I promise you will see a much better effort next time.
