Round 2 again had mixed results for the OFCFNC.
NETBALL :
A - Olinda 29 vs Yarra Glen 41.
A tightly fought game for 3/4 saw the scoreline neck & neck all the way with Olinda going into the last quarter up by a goal. Lucy Allman was strong in goals with Nat Sloan putting in a solid game in attack. Bec Gray again played a great game as WD and a key role in bringing the ball into the centre court from the defensive end. Against a tall goaler Elle Rose did a fine job in defence. Yarra Glen however increased their defence pressure and ran away in the last quarter, we rushed our passes which led to too many turnovers, final score was Yarra Glen 40 Olinda 29. In all the first3/4 showed that we are a much more competitive team this season, the skills and team work have improved and with determination and continued attendance at training the team will get some positive results.
B - Olinda 21 vs Yarra Glen 45.
Although Olinda put in a solid effort Yarra Glen proved too strong for Olinda this week with the score finishing on 45 to 21. Both teams worked hard to get to the ball which kept the umpires on their toes.
Michelle Hill put in great endeavour all game and did a stirling job in unfamiliar goaling territory and Bernie FitzGerald continues to improve her defensive skills. We have welcomed a number of new players to the team this season and look forward to each game consolidating the team and building on team plays.
FOOTBALL :
U18s - Olinda 110 vs Healesville 66.
The 18s got off to an early break and never looked troubled in a very even four qtr performance against division 1 side Healesville. They were consistant in front of goals and worked hard defensively to record a resounding 7 goal win. Blake Walter starred with 10 majors.
2nds - Olinda 64 vs Yarra Glen 86.
The 2nds were a much more competitive outfit this week and worked hard right across the ground for 3/4s. Despite holding a slender 1 goal lead at orange time, they ran out of legs and lost by 22pts. Andy Greenall finished with 5 goals. Gerard Timmermans and Russell Sloan were in the best and pressing for senior selection early.
1sts - Olinda 237 vs Yarra Glen 70.
The 1sts were on fire in the matchup with one of the Pre season favourites. An opening 12 goal to 3 first term closed the door on any ambitions Yarra Glen had and was followed up by a 14 goal third term. George Azzam and Benny O'Neill both kicked 8 with Centre Half Back / On Baller Davey Noorda getting 7. All three were named in our best. The defensive work and tackling by the Bloods was also a highlight !
