The 2017 Moe Football Netball Club U16 team set a new benchmark in sporting excellence during the 2017 AFL Gippsland League home and away season.
The U16 team finished the home and away season undefeated and recorded the highest percentage (825.48%) in Gippsland League history for this age bracket, and then won the premiership to take the title of 2017 Premiers and Champions.
This performance makes it the most dominant team of any of the four Premier and Champions in the 17 year League history; previous Premiers and Champions include Traralgon 2001 (587%), Maffra 2007 (521%), Traralgon 2010 (729%).
The Gippsland League is considered the only AFL Victoria major league in Gippsland and comprises of 10 teams; Bairnsdale, Drouin, Leongatha, Maffra, Moe, Morwell, Sale, Traralgon, Warragul and Wonthaggi.
Capping off a stellar year for the team, coach Lachlan Sim, was named 2017 Junior Coach of the Year and overall 2017 Coach of the Year by the Gippsland Branch of the Australian Football Coaches Association. The former Brisbane Bears footballer has spent the last five years of his Gippsland coaching career at the helm of Moe's U16 team, which he led to a fourth straight grand final and third premiership in four years in 2017.
