Reminders and News From Around the Club
Wives and Girlfriends Luncheon
Thanks to all those who attended Sunday’s luncheon at Maddison’s, and particular mention to all who organised the day. The club thanks Maddison’s for their hospitality and support and encourages all members to get along to their bar and restaurant at 1A Moore Street. Vic’s Parma Rater gave Maddison’s a 7.8 out of 10 and are quoted as saying ‘their parma is definitely worth a go’.
Player Auction
The clubs first compulsory function will be held at the clubrooms this Saturday night from 7.30pm. Teams of three (two footballers, one netballer) will be auctioned off to the highest bidder with the buyer receiving dividends based on the players on field performances. Please direct any questions to Social Committee members Clinton Taylor or Michael Parker who have taken on the role for this season. Many thanks to Bianca James and Co. for their tireless work on the social scene for the last few years.
Senior Interleague
Congratulations to James Blaser, Tommy Long and Darnell Grech who will be representing Moe at Senior Interleague in three weeks’ time. Gippsland League will play Bendigo to determine the number nine state wide ranking.
Newlyweds Expecting First Child
Congratulations to Kara and Matt Dickason who are expecting their first child in October later this year. The club wishes you both the very best with everything now and for the future.
Vale Jervis Stokes
The club was saddened to hear of the passing of former player and coach Jervis Stokes who entered eternal life last Saturday at the age of 89. Stokes, originally from Burnie in Tasmania, played 33 games for Richmond between 1948-50, before coaching stints at Moorabbin, Scottsdale, Moe, Trafalgar and Davenport.
Strokes came to the Lions in 1955 as playing/coach, taking the club to three finals series including the 1956 Premiership.
The Club offers its sincere condolences to all of Jervis’ family. All players will be wearing black armbands this weekend in his honour.
Lost Property
Just a reminder that after setting a new club record of 15 plus items of clothing left behind after the Morwell game, trainers will no longer be collecting anything that gets left behind and players will simply have to repurchase whatever they lose.
