Last weekend we travelled across the hills to Warragul with both clubs desperate for wins in all grades of football and netball. The Warragul ground looks like it would have been in excellent condition, and even with the rain it held up well. It was also pleasing to be welcomed by some cheerful young lads on the gate, well done. The netball held the close games of the day with a draw, a one goal win and a 2 goal win. The day started with the under 13s battling out for the draw. Bakers delight: Ella Lyons, Nagels Pharmacy: Luca Riseley. Congratulations to Warragul on their first win for the season with the under 15s. Awards; Sports First: Evie Decker, Bakers delight: Sharnee Mead-Ameri. The young Parrots prevailed by two goals in the under 17s for their first win of the season, in another very exciting game. Awards; Janie Gordon and Koby Dennison C Grade saw an even first half before the Parrots pulled away. Evans Petroleum went to the birthday girl, Melinda Featherston, Darcy’s café: Aimee O’Loughlin. B grade played another nail biter, winning by the one goal. Voyage Fitness: Kasie Rump, Buzz Hair: Jaclyn Smith, Rusty Windmill: Ali Rock. Our A grade had the bye.
In the footy Warragul broke their duck in the under 16s and under 18s. The under 16s were slow out of he blocks but showed some good patches, particularly in the 3rd quarter. Best: H. McGannon, T. Sauvarin, L. Riseley, A. Drury. K. Cooper, L. Nunn.
The under 18s were helped out with a few Korumburra boys, which was appreciated and a good sign for relationship between the clubs. Best: M. Borschman, M. Olden, C. Trewin, D. Tuckett, L. Wright and J. Puruntatameri.
The reserves dominated the game from start to finish over an undermanned Warragul side. A few boys who came back from the seniors stood up well and Jason Tomada kicked a few in his last game for a while. Best: W. Giesler, in a great display on the ball, O. Kerr, B Van rooy, M. Vanderland, N. Phelan, M. Comben. The seniors also dominated the first term and then controlled the rest of the game. The new style of game being instilled by Glenn Garner was starting to show. B. Lynch and N. Nagel bagged four each. Best: T. Marriott, C. Verboon, B, Lynch, N. Nagel, J. Renden and N. Lynch.
The auction players in the netball went to Kasie Rump and Aimee O‘Loughlin and footy went to Sean Westaway and Will Geisler.
This week is our first home game in a few weeks when Drouin come to Parrot Park and attempt to kick start their season. Normally in the netball the A grade meet their nemesis with both up the top end of the ladder. This time they are both mid range, but the contest will be just as hotly contested as ever. Drouin are struggling in the seniors and reserves footy and will be eyeing off a win or two, while their junior teams will be trying to stay in touch with the top five.
Our thoughts all go out to under 16 player Tom O’Halloran, his mother Deb and his father Tim. Deb remains in a critical condition in the Alfred Hospital after a tragic car accident. At the time of writing Deb remains in an induced coma. We are all hoping and praying that her condition has improved and that she can start the long road to recovery.
