Tomorrow, Yeoman will be out to preserve its position at the top of the ladder when it takes on South Burnie as the away team in the battle of the Wivenhoe co-tenants this week.
The Robins’ defence has done a great job so far, restricting the opposition to an average of five goals per game. The experienced forwards that the Hawks possess will present the biggest challenge so far, but our players are up to the task. Tyler Dell and Jackson James hold the key positions in the back half and combine well with Marcus Gee, Mitchell Walker and Shane Lockhart to initiate forward thrusts. Unfortunately, one of the form players of the early matches, Brock “Buckets” Bucknell, copped a hamstring injury at training and will miss tomorrows game. The return from work commitments of (young) veteran, Bob Wynwood, however, will see the other back flank well-covered.
Another to return after missing last week is the reigning Darwin Football Association Ewington Medallist, Alex Baldock, who will lift a mid-field already faring well, with the likes of Trent Nielson-Lane and Riley James providing plenty of drive.
Coach Peter Fulton will have plans for replacing centre-half-forward Jeremy Jones, who had the misfortune, last Saturday, to do a leg just when he was moving as well as ever. Tom Chilcott? Daniel Fraser-Heazlewood? Sam Saward? Someone smaller but mobile like Mason Chatwin? We’ll have to wait and see.
The Reserves come up against the team which has been the dominant force in this division for over a decade and will be extra keen to play for Nick Dolting in his 400th match. But the red-and-blacks pressed hard against Somerset last week and now have two games under their belts, so should put on a bold performance.
We look forward to seeing the Yeoman faithful out in force at Wivenhoe tomorrow.
Reserves start 12:00pm
