Diggers V Broadford
This week we welcomed Broadford and Barry Hall to our football club. After pushing Riddell to within 4 goals a few weeks ago we knew that they would be no easy beats. In what was a great atmosphere and a huge crowd for a home game, it just provided another good experience for our players.
Speaking with the Broadford coach before the game he was more than happy to have the big fella back in the team. He said his players lift 20% just by having him run out with them. They didn’t disappoint. The game was intense from start to finish. Broadford jumped us on the scoreboard at the start and got out to a 3 goal lead. Our boys worked hard to get back into the game and we went in with a slight lead at half time. The midfields went head to head for most of the game without the same level of defensive pressure we brought the week before, which was disappointing. I thought our back line played extremely well and players were willing to drop off into the hole to support big Lenny Clarke in his new role as a full back. We are continuing to work on developing versatility in our games and this is just one example of this. I thought we were in control for most of the game and if it hadn’t been for some poor kicking the gap could have been bigger. To finish with 23 behinds was disappointing and something we will look to work on in the coming weeks.
Credit to Broadford, who fought hard all game and made us earn the four points. A Big thank you to all their supporters and players that came in for a beer after the game.
Well done to everyone who put on such a great day!
