We had to 2 weeks to work on the things we did wrong against Romsey and we all expected an improved effort. We started the game really well with a high level of intensity around the ball, as well as a willingness to defend that was not there the week before. Unfortunately we missed some opportunities with poor kicking and the score line was relatively even at quarter time. The second quarter was very pleasing as the midfield really got on top, especially in the clearances. We kicked 9 goals to 2 as the forward line started to work better together. Most importantly they committed to keeping the ball in our area with pressure/effort which was something that was severely lacking against Romsey. Players showed the ability to link up around the whole ground, as well as the aptitude to run to support each other. We saw players pushing to space in the attempt to receive the ball or create space for one of their team mates which was great to see. We controlled the rest of the game and eventually went on with a 99 point win. The players got rewarded for their attack on the ball and for doing the things that will make us a strong team this year.
