Message to the Brunswick Zebras Community from our President

Dear Brunswick Zebras community,

We hope you are all well in these difficult times.

Your Committee have decided, with the new Stage 3 restrictions and the recent announcement by Football Victoria, to withdraw from Football Victoria football competitions for 2020.

We are already planning for 2021 and working hard to secure funding and planning for our redevelopment of the Sumner Park pavilion.more

Vale Rob Colla

Brunswick Zebras are deeply saddened by the passing on Sunday 21st June of our beloved committee member and long standing coach, Robert Colla.

Robert came to our club in 2004 as the first coach of our Under 12 Girls’ team. He continued to coach girls and women almost every year for the next sixteen years. He contributed enormously to last year’s Women’s State 3 team’s premiership, but more impormore

David Baker is retiring

David Baker has confirmed that he will be leaving the Brunswick Zebras FC to move interstate. This closes a chapter on Senior Men’s Football at the club as he has been without doubt our greatest player since the Senior Men team was established in its current form. Members of Brunswick Zebras will need to follow the guidelines below when returning to training and games.more

Brunswick Zebras Training recommencing with effect Monday, 22nd June 2020

We can confirm that training can commence with effect Monday, 22nd June (unless further changes are announced tomorrow).

Full contact training can take place for Mini Roos and Juniors, non contact for over the age of 18 - in groups of no more than 20 (plus coach).

Your Coach/Team Manager will confirm with you the venue/time/date of training. Please note this may have changed for the short termmore

Returning to Training

We are finally able to get teams back to training, we have prepared a health plan and we expect to restart next week. We are waiting for a final sign off to our plan from the Moreland Council. We will commence training at Balfe and Sumner Park to ensure we can meet the requirements of the health plan and we can control numbers.more

2020 Training and Games

Following on from last week's email, there are many who have expressed interest in a return to training and playing in 2020.

To that end, we are submitting the required documentation to council to facilitiate this for their approval and return.

We will also be advising Football Victoria by the end of this week which teams wish to resume playing.more

As previously mentioned, at Brunswick Zebras, the health and well being of all of our members is our number one priority. With support from teams and families, we can resume some training for teams that wish to recommence.

Football Victoria has announced that the temporary suspension on all competitions and football activities has been extended until May 31, 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, in line with the release from Football Federation Australia earlier this evening (extract from Football Victoria email)more

All grassroots football activity in Australia has been suspended

FFA advises that effective from 12:00am on 18 March 2020, all sanctioned grassroots football activity in Australia will be suspended until 14 April 2020.

The decision will take effect from 12:00am on Wednesday, 18 March 2020 until Tuesday, 14 April 2020.more
