CDHBU Power started the season off travelling to Rand to play Rand-Walbundrie Tigers and came away with 6 wins out of 7 games in the Netball and 2 wins from 4 games of the Football.
The day start well in the Netball with the young Mods having a big victory 22 to 3. All the new young girls all played well in the big win. The Juniors also started the season well in with Claire Wilson & Lucy Bartlett playing well enable the side to have a 21 to 11 victory. The Intermediate Netballers had a good day out with a huge 53 to 9 victory against the Tigers. Zoe Wilson & Rachel Hanrahan were name the best players in an even team performance.
C Reserve fought hard in their game before going down by a goal losing 18 to 19. Evie Barbour & Rosie Dye played great games for the Power in the tight loss. C Grade had a big win against the Tigers winning 47 to 19. Steph Phibbs was great in goals for the Power, while Amy Lealiifano gave plenty of drive in centre court.
B Grade were quickly out of the blocks in their game gaining an early leading before going onto a powerful 50 to 14 win. Erin Lavis was good in centre court, while Megan Hanrahan was tight in defence.
A Grade registered a thrilling one goal victory against the Tigers winning 35 to 34. The girls came from 6 goals down at the last change to snatch the win. New players Bec Barber & Hayley Kuschert were instrumental in the win, while Julie Lavis also played well.
In the Football the Under 14’s started well with an 89 point victory. The Power were quick out of the blocks racing to a 32 point lead at quarter time and continued to build the lead to win 15.7 to 1.2. Jack Wynne was everywhere and also kicked 3 goals while Jack Schilg played a great game first up for the club. Jake Boyle got plenty of the ball, while Jacob Kingston was dangerous of forward with 2 goals.
The Under 17’s had a thrilling 1 point win against the Tigers. The Power lead all game narrowly and were able to hang on for a 7.4 to 7.3 victory. Captain Kade Wilson gave great drive from the centre of the ground, while Luke Murphy had a superb game in defence. Michael Stephens & Damien Wilson were also strong while Jakob Hanrahan was always threatening.
The Reserves were overpowered by a much stronger team as they went down by 77 points 3.2 to 14.13. Veterans Ian Bock and Paul Phibbs had plenty of the ball while Steven Hanning showed plenty of skill. Daniel Barton continued his improvement from last season winning his share of the ball, while Jordan Ray showed some good signs in defence, even venturing forward for a goal.
The Seniors under new coach Charlie Cay put of a great effort for three quarters before going down to the Tigers by 43 points. It was a tight opening to the game with plenty of tackling but the Tigers were able to take an 11 point lead into quarter time leading 4.0 to 2.1. In the second quarter the Power played some good football with Brad Talbot & Jarrod Hanrahan winning plenty of the ball in the mid field and Doug Lavis on fire up forward with 4 goals for the quarter saw the scores level at half time 6.4 a piece. It was tight again the third quarter with Xavier Mardling playing well in the ruck and Matthew Ross playing a great game in defence but the Tigers were able to break away late to lead by 13 points at the last change 10.6 to 8.5. A Brad Talbot goal early in the last quarter saw the Power get to within 7 points, but the Tigers ran away with the game after that winning 15.12 to 9.5.
This week sees the Power take on Holbrook at Holbrook. Note the change in venue.
The club would like to congratulate Brooke Wilson, Andrew Phibbs & Damien Wilson who have all gained representative selection.
Brooke Wilson will be going to Canberra soon to try out for possible selection into the Mackillop netball side, which if selected will play in the NSW State Primary PSSA Netball in Newcastle 19th to the 21st July. Andrew Phibbs, has been selected in the Mackillop side to play in the NSW PSSA Australian rules football school carnival in Sydney 31st May to the 2nd June. And Damien Wilson, has been selected to play for the Bushrangers, in the V-Line Cup Championships in Melbourne 10th to 13th April, and also the GWS Academy
