Coach Info

Overview

Firstly our coaches recieve a 50% discount on their child's fees in the team they are coaching. This is in recognition for the effort put in during the season.

Our coaches, along with Team Managers are the key responsible partnership for each Wembley team. Taking control during training and games and helping to develop the children under your care is a significant undertaking. This can be a challenging role depending on the coaches experience with overseeing a group of kids and even knowledge of basketball.

Most coaches are parents of a child in the team, so require support from the Club, other parents and the Team Manager.

Coach + Team Manager + Parent Support = Partnership to a successfully run Wembley Team

Coaching provides an opportunity to get an immense sense of satisfaction and joy being involved with developing your team members individually and your team as a whole. The Club will support you as much as we can. Just ask if you need some assistance or guidance.

Below are some items that you need to consider and adhere to when coaching at Wembley Junior Basketball Club.

Working with Children Check

All coaches must have a working with children check (WWCC) completed and Declaration before being able to coach. There are other requirements from Basketball Victoria and our Associations which you can see on the Child Protection Policy page.

A periodic check will be made by the club (and the Associations) to ensure compliance. For coaches who are under 18 years old or for coaches awaiting paperwork there must be another person holding a WWCC at the match at all times. Special permission must be sought from the President for any coaches aged less than 16 years old.

The coach and/or the holder of the WWCC must have their name on the front of the score sheet at every game. Failure to do will result in points being stripped from the offending team.

Coaching for coaches

Occasionally courses are run by Altona and Westgate Associations to build coaching skills amongst the competition. These will be advertised by the Club when available.

This code of conduct is relevant to all volunteers. Some aspects are coach specific (6 and 9) but the value of each must be supported by all our volunteers, parents and players.
