Grand Finals
at Portland
Grand Final day saw Coleraine with three teams battling for the Premiership on a typically windy day which made ball handling very difficult.
Seniors
After the 2nd Semi Final stunning victory, Coleraine knew that Westerns would be out to redeem themselves.
Even with the aid of the strong wind, no one expected that Westerns would completely dominate the 1st quarter to keep the Maroons scoreless while kicking 6.3 themselves.
Matters were made even worse with James Dyer being stretchered off with a serious knee injury.
Coleraine made some headway with their turn with the wind to kick 3 goals and keep Westerns scoreless.
The decisive time came with Coleraine managing to kick 3 goals into the wind while also managing to pressure Westerns into spraying their shots at goal and rstricting them to just 3.7.
The last quarter saw the Maroons kick 2 goals in 4 minutes to give themselves a chance. Westerns put the clamps on again and it wasn't until there were just a few minutes left that Coleraine kicked the goal to hit the lead for the first time. Another quick goal and the inability of Westerns to make any headway themselves saw the Coleraine crowd get roaring and push the boys on to the sealing goal and a truly phenomenal Grand Final victory.
Well done to Josh Eats, his assistants and the players for having the belief that they could overcome the horror start and bringing home their 4th flag in a row which ties the league record.
Reserves
Unbeaten Tyrendarra were red hot favourites to brush aside Coleraine, but coach Don Langley and assistants had a plan and a hope that the players could find that little bit extra.
Coleraine had the wind in the first quarter but were wasteful in front of goal to lead by just 4pts.
Tyrendarra then showed why they had been the dominant side all year, with smart long play and kick out to a significant 22 point lead at halftime.
Time to kick the plan into gear and with a shuffle of a few players, the players started getting on top and with a goal just before the siren, the Maroons had edged in front by a point.
What followed in the final quarter was some of the tightest, toughest battles you'd ever see as most of the crowd were just waiting for Tyrendarra to use the wind and charge away.
The Coleraine boys were magnificent and in total defiance of all things logical, kept Tyrendarra goalless with the wind. This was the only time this happened all day and when the Maroons pushed the ball forward enough to produce a goal with about 7 minutes to go, they were in front.
Tyrendarra pushed and pushed but the Coleraine defence was in "none shall pass" mode and the Maroons hung on for a famous victory which saw utter pandemonium from the bench and Coleraine crowd as the siren blew.
Congratulations to Don Langley, his assistants and the players for a great season, with a special mention to the boys who didn't make it into the team today. You were a big part in getting the team to the Grand Final and as Eatsy says, it doesn't take the 20 in one team to be successful, it takes every player in the club, when one wins, we all win together.
Under 13's
The Coleraine Under 13's have come a long, long way this season and have done fantastically well to make the Grand Final against Tyrendarra.
A very closely fought first half saw just one goal seperate the teams.
Sadly, the Tyrendarra girls finished the game a little stronger to get the win 28 - 33.
The Maroons have had a fine season and no doubt will have learned a lot about the game, which will help them to become better netballers down the line.
Well done girls, we are all very proud of you.
