Heat Policy

Ashwood Wolves Hot Weather Training Policy

 1)  For venues without cooling facilities, if on the morning of the scheduled training, the reported (Expected) maximum temperature is 36 degrees Celsius or above at http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/melbourne.shtml, all training is to be cancelled for that day/evening by the Coaches and Team Managers.  The Coach or Team Manager will advise the Training Coordinator by email that this has been done.

2)  Where the venue temperature cannot be ascertained prior to arrival but the temperature is found to exceed 35 degrees Celsius, training activity involving physical exertion will cease, Coaches may conduct lectures, discussion or display sessions.

3)  When the temperature inside a venue exceeds 40 degrees Celsius, all training will be abandoned.

4)  If the venue temperature exceeds 30 degrees Celsius or in the judgement of the coach or a consensus of parents is that it has exceeded 30 degrees Celsius and no evidence to the contrary is available, training shall be modified so that there is at least a one minute break after every five minutes of activity.

5)  Coaches shall pay particular attention to players' regular hydration and be alert and react to any signs of distress/potential distress in players.  Coaches and Team Managers  should ascertain whether any players have known medical conditions which may be affected by heat.

6)  No-one should ever feel as though they must play if they believe it is unsafe or they are feeling distressed.

7)  Should any issues arise, child safety is the first concern. At all training, players should have regular access to water regardless of the temperature in the venue.
