History

Established in 1983, Chandler Park Junior Basketball Club (Jets) is one of the 17 clubs that makes up the Knox Basketball Association, We take pride in being a family-oriented club.

Elizabeth and Barry Harvey started the club in conjunction with Neville Groves and Brent Ferguson - all of whom coached basketball teams. Commencing with 4 boys teams, the 'Jets' originally began as a way for boys playing with the Chandler Park Football Club to keep fit through the summer off-season.   So, where is Chandler Park?  Well you can see here that Chandler Park is quite close to the Knox Stadium.

Though we have recently added a splash of red, our uniform still features the blue and white, reflecting the heritage of the club. As Boronia was in the North Melbourne recruiting zone, the colours of the Chandler Park Football Club were derived from North Melbourne (the Kangaroos).

Two years after the club started, a girls team was added when the boys sisters grew tired of watching them have all the fun. While Chandler Park Football Club amalgamated with Boronia Football Club a few years later, the Basketball club has continued to prosper.

At first, we trained teams on the outside courts at Boronia Primary School but quickly moved to the Boronia Youth hall on Dorset Rd (near where McDonalds is now). With more teams starting, we outgrew this venue and moved again to the newly built gym hall at Boronia Heights Secondary College. That was in 1988. In 2005, we moved the majority of our training to Boronia Primary school to establish stronger links with primary aged children.  In 2009 we moved from BHSC to Fairhills.

We have been moderately successful on the courts over the past 29 years, however the club has always emphasised that enjoyment of the game is more important than winning.
