The Toronto Dingos continued their strong start to the season with an 11-point win over the hybrid-Roos team at Humber South in a Friday night thriller.
Playing 12-on-12 against a Roos team that borrowed seven players from other football clubs – Rebels, Demons – the Dingos started strongly booting 4.3 to one goal in the first quarter. The hybrid Roos got the margin back to a couple of goals by half-time, but a strong third quarter helped set up the 11-point win.
With open spaces everywhere, the Dingos got plenty of run from Ben Sinclair and Ciaran Buckley in the middle. Greg Gilbert and Mike Bocian were solid off half back . And full forward Rob McNaughton booted five majors in a great return-to-form game from the veteran.
Owen Donaghy played his first game for the Dingos and was solid through the ruck and around the ground. He stood up when the Dingos needed him to. Nate Ives also played his first game for the club.
The win takes the Dingos to 2-0 to start the year.
