We certainly had chances in the slippery conditions with the ball in our attacking half for most of the final term, but we could not get that last goal to take the lead in that frantic last two minutes. Why the boys were not that desperate in the first quarter is hard to know. That said, we trailed all day and did not handle the wet conditions anywhere as well as Blackburn and also failed to kick very kickable goals by players who we expect to do better. We did lose Nathan Henley to injury before half time and we should not forget that our best defender Dean Millhouse is still sidelined.
The three point margin could be a very costly result as we get further down the track, and we now have the challenge of Balwyn next week, who had a shock loss to E.Ringwood.
Our Reserves continued to be very strong indeed and dealt with Blackburn in a very impressive manner by 35 points to see themselves on top of the ladder. It was also a great result for Dean Waller’s 150’s Club Game and the Reserves boys very much joined the celebrations.
There was a similar outstanding effort from our Under 19’s who were very impressive in their 27 point defeat of arch rivals Blackburn and certainly helped by the inclusion Liam Wale-Buxton. A very big boy indeed. Standing at over 196 cm and 99 kg, he was an imposing site in the ruck, or for that matter, anywhere else. Liam has joined us from Upwey , but has mostly been playing at Eastern Ranges.
And, the big winners for the day were the FH Eagles who not only had their first win for the season, but did so by a whopping 94pts. Well done to Coach Rick Bell and the boys.
