Matthew Black - Bert Bargeus Medal Winner; 2018 Male Athlete of the Year.

Matthew is a 2 time State Player for SA Country and has represented SA Country at 5 Country Cups.  During his career at SA Country, Matthew has been a fierce competitor both during games and training sessions, and through this trait has repeatedly made his teammates better players.  Matthew has always been a passionate athlete and has had a reputation for wearing his heart on his sleeve.

The challenge of Matt channelling his passion for the game in a constructive way is one that he embraced whole-heartedly in his final year of the SA Country program, and he was successful in a major way.  In his final year in the program, Matt transformed himself into one of the strongest leaders in the program, improving on his trademark ability to make his teammates better, as well as individually being our best defender at the 2018 U18 National Championships and one of our most consistent scorers.

Through out his time in the SAC High Performance program, Matthew did a fantastic job of demonstrating the character traits that our program is built on, and these traits will see that he continues to reach high standards both on the court playing for the Mt Gambier Pioneers in the SA Premier League, and off the court later in life.
