ROUND SEVENTEEN: West Adelaide Bearcats v Central District Lions

WOMEN by Kieren Vartuli

Saturday night will see 5th place take on 11th as Centrals still search for their first W of the season. Centrals fell to the Flames by only 9-points last round and will still search for an upset at any cost. West Adelaide on the other hand are fresh off a close loss to the Pioneers who edged them out by only 3-points last Saturday. The difference maker in this outing was the poor start by West Adelaide after they were outscored 8-23. The supreme pressure of Mount Gambier continued to pile on West Adelaide as the game progressed as they concluded with a whopping 20-turnovers. Despite this, the ball movement by West was phenomenal after dishing off over 21-assists.

By slowing and potentially stopping West Adelaide’s ball movement, Centrals may find a way to damage the Bearcats on the scoreboard. It is arguable that if Perez-Crespo did not struggle from the floor, the Lions would have earned their first win of the year. Averaging 13.6-PPG, Perez Crespo finished with 7-points off 2-12 shooting. A few more made baskets and the landscape of the game would have changed drastically.

The last time these two sides met was in Round 5 at the STARPlex where the Bearcats emerged victorious by just under 20-points. Assuming the Lions play like they did against the Flames but with the increased input of Perez-Crespo, West may be in trouble. That being said, West Adelaide are still a very dangerous team and are no strangers to putting an explanation mark on games.

Hang Time Prediction: West Adelaide Bearcats

MEN by Daniel Renfrey

The Bearcats were outplayed in all aspects of the game by Mt Gambier in their Round 16 meeting and will be hoping they can produce some stronger offence in their matchup with the Lions. The team was stagnant on that side of the basketball and also turned it over 18 times, which did not help their case. They will need to be better individually scoring wise and as a team with ball movement if they want to beat a Lions team who will be hungry for a win after losing 92-68 to the Flames. Riewer will need to be better than he was, as he only shot 2-13 from the field in an uncharacteristic performance. This one should be close, with both teams struggling as of late but having the offensive and defensive potential to put together a good game. In a neck-and-neck battle the Lions may very well win on defence.

Hang Time prediction: Central Districts Lions
