Brisbane City secured their first ever opening day PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland victory at Corporate Travel Management Stadium on Saturday night, defeating SWQ Thunder 4-1.

Mustafa Jafari opened the scoring for the visitors with a precise finish from inside the area after connecting with fullback Nicholas Edwards’ low cross, but City hit back almost immediately through Carter Glockner to level the scoring at the break.

City went ahead soon after the break when Scott Coulson slotted home from the penalty spot after Jason Park was fouled in the area.

Late goals from Koh Satake and another for Glockner from the spot polished the scoreline for City.

City's next assignment is a trip to the Gold Coast, while Thunder will hope to make the most of their first home outing - against Sunshine Coast FC - as they seek to build on last year’s 8th place finish.

Key Moments

38’ - GOAL FOR THUNDER - Mustafa Jafari volleys Nicholas Edwards' cross from the right back across Bon Scott to open the scoring.

41' - GOAL FOR CITY - Scot Coulson crosses from the right to Bird, who heads the ball down to the feet of Carter Glockner and the striker fires the ball past Luke Borean at close-range.

55’ - CHANCE FOR CITY - Jason Park is allowed a run on goal from the left hand side, but his placed shot is brilliantly saved by Luke Borean.

63’ - GOAL FOR CITY - Jason Park is scythed down in the area and referee Jason Crow has no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Borean guesses right, but Coulson finds the corner and gives City the lead.

87’ - GOAL FOR CITY - Koh Satake pokes the ball past Borean after Bird plays him through on goal with a precision pass from midfield.

89’ - CHANCE FOR THUNDER - Mustafa Jafari has a spectacular goal disallowed due to offside.

90+1’ - PENALTY FOR CITY - Thunder are penalised for a handball in the area and Carter Glockner grabs a brace from the spot, firing low to Borean’s left.
