University of Queensland FC have posted back-to-back wins for the first time this season after accounting for Peninsula Power Women 3-1 at A.J.Kelly Park.

UQFC dictated terms early with two goals inside the opening quarter hour via Vicky Lines and Abbey O'Sullivan, before club leading goalscorer Grace Vogler sealed the win in the second half with her ninth goal of the season.

Despite fashioning several chances, Power’s sole consolation had to wait until the closing stages when Morgan Schoener floated in a long-range wonder goal from an acute angle.

The win sees UQFC remain in ninth position in the standings but now move equal on points with Western Pride Women in eighth.

For Power the result marks a fifth straight defeat but also a significant turnaround from the sides’ earlier meeting this season where Power conceded a humbling eleven goals.

Key Moments

4’ – GOAL FOR UQFC – Vicky Lines receives a cutback from Zozia Sen and volleys the finish past Power goalkeeper Hideka Shikata

15’ – GOAL FOR UQFC – Grace Vogler’s free-kick picks out Abbey O’Sullivan, who tucks home the finish to double the advantage

24’ – CHANCE FOR POWER – Bree Lockyear lays off Jasime Michel’s cross for Michelle Le Roux, but she skies her shot high of the target

50’ – CHANCE FOR POWER – Morgan Schoener’s cross is met by Le Roux at the back post but her shot is denied by a diving save from UQFC goalkeeper Danielle Harbot

79’ – GOAL FOR UQFC – Marguerite De Roquefeuil crosses for Vogler at the back post, who sends her first effort into the crossbar but pounces on the rebound to wrap up the points

What They Said

“It was tough conditions. It’s a massive field and in this heat as well, with the sun directly on them. I think it was a tough game for both sides but I was pleased with my girls. We were very comfortable at times, controlled the game when we had to and got the goals that we needed.“ – Rick Coghlin, University of Queensland FC Women coach

“If we look at the last round where we lost by eleven compared to this round we only lost by a few – that’s good progress throughout the season. But there were times in that game, particularly the first 25 minutes of the second half, where we were very dominant. So while I’m happy with the progress of the team this season I’m a little bit disappointed because I thought that was a game we might have gotten a result out of.“ – Michael Cook, Peninsula Power FC Women coach
