Brisbane Roar Youth produced a stunning first-half blitz to consign Moreton Bay United to a heavy 4-1 defeat at Cleveland Showgrounds on Tuesday night.

Young Roar controlled proceedings from the start as all five goals were scored amidst a frantic first 45 minutes.

Nick D’Agostino opened the scoring from the penalty spot inside 15 minutes before Jesse Daley doubled the hosts’ advantage with an exquisite free-kick.

Jets reduced the deficit with a penalty of their own through Jordan Farina, but further strikes from D’Agostino and Nicholas Panetta sealed the result by half-time.

Few chances followed after the restart to leave Jets with their heaviest defeat of the season, while Young Roar’s fourth win of 2016 sees them climb to ninth.

Key Moments

9’ – CHANCE FOR ROAR – Jesse Daley whips a devilish free-kick from the right wing and it cannons out off the right post.

13’ – GOAL FOR ROAR – Joseph Champness is fouled in the area and the referee points to the spot. Nick D’Agostino sends Bon Scott the wrong way to put Young Roar in front.

22’ – GOAL FOR ROAR – From an almost identical spot to where his effort hit the upright early in the game, Jesse Daley curls a beautifully hit free-kick into the top corner.

28’ – CHANCE FOR JETS – Alex Janovsky breaks into the area but curls his shot the wrong side of the near post.

32’ – GOAL FOR JETS – Danny Kim fouls Scott Stewart at the top of the box and Moreton Bay are awarded a penalty. Jordan Farina steps up and finishes coolly.

42’ – GOAL FOR ROAR – Jayden Prasad’s cross from the right meets D’Agostino in his stride and the striker applies the finish at close-range.

45’ – GOAL FOR ROAR – Nicholas Panetta receives the ball on the edge of the area before rounding the defence and finishing into the roof of the net with his left foot.

What They Said

“I think the first 45 was some of the best stuff we’ve played this year. We worked really hard in the front third and it’s probably the first time we’ve capitalised on all the opportunities we’ve created. As far as the boys are concerned, they’re happy but not getting carried away as we’ve got another big game on Sunday and they’re really looking forward to that one.” – Josh McCloughan, Brisbane Roar FC Youth coach.

“We were very poor tonight. I think we just didn’t close the distances between us and the ball carrier, something the Roar did very well and pressed us hard. They were camped in our defensive third for the majority of that first half. We’ve just got to get back to things we do really well and re-group. Tonight was just one of those nights.” – Dave Harris, Moreton Bay United FC coach.
