Scott Stewart atoned for an earlier own goal to salvage Moreton Bay United a 1-1 draw against Sunshine Coast FC at Sunshine Coast Stadium.

Stewart headed in a corner midway with a little under quarter hour remaining for his fourth goal of the season to secure a share of the points after his first-half defensive error inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

A grandstand finish saw both sides threaten late, however neither was able to break the deadlock – Paul Brownlie seeing a shot contentiously denied on the line for Fire, while Jacob Fulluck shot wide with the final chance of the match for Jets.

The draw is the second of the season for both sides but extends Fire’s winless run to three straight matches.

What They Said

“I think we matched them in all departments. That’s what we got to do. The difference is today, compared to what we done in the last two games, is we did it for ninety minutes and not forty five. So we’ve matched one of the best teams in the league and really we’re unlucky not to come away with three points. But we’re happy with a point. We’re building and we’ll see where it takes us in the next game.“ – Sam Saif, Sunshine Coast FC coach

“They are a tough team. They play an old-school football. They play long to a number nine who holds it up and lays it off. It’s old-school football that we should know how to play against, but they do it well.“ – Scott Stewart, Moreton Bay United FC
