A four goal masterclass from Abbey Lloyd guided SWQ Thunder Women to a 4-1 win over University of Queensland FC Women at Clive Berghofer Stadium.

Lloyd struck twice in each half to go to the top of the competition’s goal-scoring charts with 11 goals in five games – extending her record of scoring in every match this season.

UQFC pulled a goal back prior to half-time via Vicky Lines – her first of the season - but were unable to curb the hosts in the second stanza as they ran away with the contest.

The win is Thunder’s third in five games and moves them to second on the table behind Eastern Suburbs FC - the only team to defeat the Toowoomba club so far this season.

The result leaves UQFC in ninth position with just a single win from their opening five fixtures.

What They Said

“There was a bit of combination play throughout the game but it wasn’t as good as we wanted. Abbey was definitely a stand-out up front with four goals but it was a good team effort to keep them out. UQ are always a hard team so it was really good game to play.“ – Jordan Franke, SWQ Thunder FC Women captain

“We’re quite disappointed with that result. We’ve had a few weeks off and a little bit longer than other teams after having a mid-week game and then Easter and the week off. So not our best game. We have a lot to work on but we will go back to the drawing board and will try and get back to where we were before the Easter break.” – Danielle Harbot, University of Queensland FC Women captain
