Pre-Season - Wednesday Wrap

Northern Fury and Sunshine Coast FC's pre-season wobbles continued in Wednesday’s pre-season friendlies featuring PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Queensland clubs.

Fury Fail To Flatter Against Brothers

TOWNSVILLE | Northern Fury recorded their third straight pre-season loss after succumbing 2-0 to Brothers Townsville at Townsville Sports Reserve.

With injury preventing coach Ian Ferguson from fielding a full-strength team, Fury again failed to flatter after previous pre-season defeats to FNQ Heat and Mackay Magpies.

Brothers winger James Artis opened accounts midway through the first half when he cut inside a defender before curling a pin-point shot into the top corner of the goal.

Scott Cameron then doubled the advantage from the penalty spot on the hour after Fury’s defence were penalised trying to head clear inside the penalty box.

Fury will look to bounce back when they face FNQ Heat on Saturday in Cairns.

Fire Score Late To Draw Woombye

SUNSHINE COAST | Sunshine Coast FC showed glimpses of their pre-season rhthym but ultimately left it late to salvage a 2-2 draw with local Sunshine Coast club Woombye FC at The Snake Pit.

Fire started brightly and opened the scoring midway through the first half when Jeremy Stewart won possession deep in Woombye's half before slotting a composed finish in his first match of the pre-season.

However, Paul Arnison's side was on the back foot early in the second stanza when Kyle Townsend was penalised allowing Corey Towle to convert with the ensuing penalty.

Woombye doubled their advantage ten minutes later when Josh Walton delivered a firmly struck volley from the edge of the area.

Fire continued to threaten in search of the equaliser - forcing several saves before Connor Hancock saw a free-kick denied by the post.

Their persistance eventually found reward in the final quarter hour when Cameron Nairn slotted a strong finish on the turn to share the spoils.

Fire continue their pre-season against Gold Coast club Magic United on Saturday.

Woombye FC  2 (Corey TOWLE 55', Josh WALTON 66')
Sunshine Coast FC  2 (Jeremy STEWART 23', Cameron NAIRN 78')
