Fan favourite Graham Fyfe has been installed as Redlands United coach only days out from their season opener against Brisbane Strikers.

The appointment was confirmed today by the Red Devils as they announced their coaching structure for the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland season, with former coach Matt Chandler now serving solely as Technical Director at the club after previously serving in a dual capacity.

Fyfe will serve in a player-coach role, while teammate Russell Woodruffe also takes a dual role as Assistant Coach.

Fyfe, 32, was once contracted to Scottish giants Celtic FC, before becoming a first team fixture for the Red Devils, scoring 25 goals in 41 appearances for the club in the first two PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland campaigns.

Chandler will oversee the entire football philosophy and development of Redlands’ football programs from U12 through to the senior squads.

A significant part of the role will be devoted to the developing and mentoring the senior leadership team of Fyfe, Woodruffe and Youth Men’s Coach James Anderson.

The changes come to ensure the Red Devils comply with licence terms that allowed for a joint position of Head Coach And Technical Director only for their first two years in PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland.

In a statement released by the club, Redlands United General Manager Martin Hampson said the development and support of the coaching team is the right step forward for the club.

“Graham has been a part of the senior leadership  team for a number of years and will be working closely with Matt, Russell and James to foster our culture of youth development and free flowing football,” Hampson explained.

“Matt will continue to be heavily involved in the senior section of the club as his wealth of knowledge and a genuine passion for player development is critical to ensure we can provide a continuous pathway from junior programs into the senior ranks,” he concluded.

Redlands kick-off their PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland campaign against Strikers on Saturday night at Perry Park. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
