City Score 3 In Pre-Season Opener

Words: Michael Flynn

Brisbane City kicked off their pre-season on Friday night with a 3-1 win over UQFC at University of Queensland Field 5 in Brisbane.

PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland 2013 Golden Boot winner Antonio Murray opened the scoring for City inside the opening half hour before Chris Toovey doubled their advantage eleven minutes later.

Sam Henny halved the margin prior to the interval for UQFC with the Brisbane Premier League side’s only goal of the contest, however defender Kai Smith ultimately sealed the result for the visitors with 15 minutes remaning.

The match was City’s first of 2015 as coach Glen Volker seeks to recapture the form that saw his team qualify for the inaugural PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Grand Final in 2013.

City will continue their pre-season campaign in the BLK Silver Boot on Wednesday night at Lions FC Stadium against another Brisbane Premier League opponent, Rochedale Rovers.

In the earlier game, Brisbane City's Youth Men were defeated 3-0 by UQFC's Reserve team.

University of Queensland FC 1 (Sam HENNY 36’)
Brisbane City FC 3 (Antonio MURRAY 23’, Chris TOOVEY 34’, Kai SMITH 75’)
