Western Pride have bolstered their attacking stocks with the signing of former Brisbane City and Olympic FC winger Anthony Poljak.

The 19-year-old is Graham Harvey’s first mid-season signing as the Pride boss moves to fill the hole created by Jordan Lambi’s injury.

Poljak was recommended to the Ipswich club by Pride forward Joe Duckworth after returning to Australia following trials with Croatian powerhouse Hadjuk Split and Spanish outfits Getafe FC and Racing Santander.

Harvey described the signing as matching Pride’s development philosophy.

“He ticks off the boxes in terms of age and ability,” Harvey said of the promising attacker.

“He’s a skilful winger so he can contribute a few goals and assists.

“We have a few boys heading off overseas during the June period so it is good timing really.

“Anthony’s been off trialling all over the world so he really wants to settle down and play in the NPL and see where football leads him at the end of the season.”

Poljak progressed through the youth ranks with Olympic FC before finding first-team football at Brisbane City, where he notched two goals in 11 games last season.

The promising attacker believes a return to the PlayStation® 4 National Premier Leagues is the perfect to build on his overseas experiences.

“The NPL is at a very high standard, and the training is at a high intensity,” Poljak said.

“I know Pride play a lot of youth and that is the football I enjoy playing.

“I’ve been playing games with the clubs wherever I’ve trialled though I’ve not been signed for registered games.

“I feel it has still helped because I’ve been playing with professional players, so I’ve grown as a footballer.”
