PS4NPLQLD Women's Structure Statement

Football Queensland can confirm changes to the previously announced structure for the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland 2016 Women’s competition.

The new format will see the 2015 open-age rules reapplied to the top-tier of women’s football in the state, which will be merged with the Youth Women’s division.

The decision removes the requirement for 75 per cent of a squad’s players to be aged under 20, which was introduced to concentrate elite talent on the pathway to the Westfield W-League.

Football Queensland CEO Geoff Foster said the move reflected stakeholder preference for a continuation of last season’s system.

“Football Queensland believes the original vision for next season best suited the long-term future of elite women’s football in the state,” Foster said.

“However, following consultation with Football Federation Australia and player delegates, Football Queensland has determined the intended rule changes will no longer apply.

“We anticipate a competitive 2016 season contested by the 12 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Women’s clubs.”

The format of the Under 13 Girls and Under 15 Girls age groups will remain unchanged for the 2016 season.
