Els Van Hooijdonk will say goodbye to Sunshine Coast FC Women after Sunday’s match against Moreton Bay United FC.

The 18-year-old right back will be moving to the United States to study a four-year business degree on a scholarship for Football, Track and Field to Wesleyan College in Tennessee.

Van Hooijdonk started playing with Fire's Under-18 Girls and progressed to the Senior Women’s team, in which she has been a staple in PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland this season.

Van Hooijdonk has also previously represented Queensland Athletics in the 100 metres, 200 metres and long jump.

Sunshine Coast FC Senior Women coach David Bensted praised Van Hooijdonk’s ability to create goal-scoring opportunities.

“Els is an excellent defender and she has a knack for creating openings that allows her teammates to score,” Bensted said.

“Els’ background in athletics really shows through on the field when she makes her forward runs.”

Bensted also congratulated Van Hooijdonk on her achievement and wishes her the best in her football career.

“I’m sad to see Els go, but it’s a great opportunity for her and I’m sure she will make the most of it,” he concluded.
