Volker Departs City

Brisbane City have confirmed Glen Volker will not return as the club’s Senior Men’s head coach after the Easter break.

The news was officially announced today in a statement released by the club.

''Brisbane City Football Club wish to announce that Glen Volker and the club have decided by mutual agreement to part ways,” the statement read.

“The club would like to thank Glen for his services over the past two and a half years and wish him well in any future endeavours.”

“Darron Heselden (Youth team coach) will take the lead role in the Senior team. While there have been a number of interested parties for the Senior coaching position the club will work with Darron before making any further decisions,” the statement concluded.

A source at the club confirmed that the playing group were officially told of the decision at Tuesday night training, with Heseldon taking charge of the session.

Speculation surrounded Volker’s position in the local press in recent days as Senior Men’s head coach following an inconsistent pre-season and winless start to the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland 2015 season.

City, who are former participants in the National Soccer League and one of Queensland's most decorated clubs, currently sit bottom of the league table with one draw and four losses from their opening five matches.

Volker coached City to 27 wins in 53 PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland matches, guiding the Senior Men’s team from their very first match of the competition in 2013.

He also was at the helm through a 13 match undefeated streak in 2013 that ultimately saw the side qualify for the inaugural PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Grand Final, which City lost on penalties to cross-town rivals Olympic FC.

Prior to coaching City, Volker was head coach of Football Brisbane Trophy Superstore Premier League club University of Queensland FC.
