Red Devils Fall Short Against Mitchy

Words: Michael Flynn

Redlands United fell 2-1 to Mitchelton FC in their final BLK Silver Boot pre-season match on Friday night at Lions FC Stadium.

The Red Devils fought back from a goal down at half-time, only for Mitchelton to seal the win from the penalty spot late in the contest.

Jake Mitchell spectacularly opened accounts for the Football Brisbane Trophy Superstore Premier League club inside the opening 20 minutes, delivering a stinging strike from 20 yards.

Redlands continued to struggle to find their rhythm before substitute Joel Stone struck just wide of the target inside the final half hour.

Kai Halliday drew the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland side level inside the final quarter hour as the Red Devils sought to bring the match to a penalty shoot-out.

However, Paul Swithenbank sealed the result for Mitchelton with a strike from the penalty spot in the final five minutes to hand Redlands their second defeat of the pre-season.

The Red Devils continue their pre-season against Football Brisbane Capital League One outfit Holland Park Hawks next Saturday.

Redlands United FC  1 (Kai HALLIDAY 79’)
Mitchelton FC  2 (Jake MITCHELL 18’, Paul SWITHENBANK 85’p)
